How to Safely Install Wheel Spacers

In this video, I go over the proper installation of wheel spacers. Ensuring they’re mounted properly is CRUCIAL for the safety of yourself and others. The most important part of the installation is the use of a torque wrench. Whether you want one just to get you by, or you’re looking for a really nice torque wrench, I’ve included a few below to give you options if you’re looking to pick one up.

With your torque wrench, you’ll have to set it to your specified lug nut specification, and torque the hub-centric wheel spacer to the hub of the car. I’ve included a bunch of spacers that will work for most vehicles, ranging from 4×100 to 5×120 so what you should need should be there.

As an extra precaution, you can apply some 3M copper anti-seize to the faces of the brake rotor and the face of the wheel spacer to prevent corrosion ▶︎

After you have the spacer torqued to your hub, torque your wheel down to the spacer using the same torque spec as before. Lower the car on the ground and take the vehicle for a test drive. After taking the car for a drive (around 50-100 km’s) and get the brake warm and let them cool, remove your wheels from the car, and retorque everything to ensure everything is tight.

DO NOT use thread locker on any of the threads, or any lubricants such as copper antiseize, as you will be altering the torque spec of the lug nut.

Will 1/4 inch spacers eliminate rubbing on a 2017 Ford Super Duty with Toyo RT 37/12.50/20 tires? Almost.

Update: these free floating type spacers leave little surface for hub centric wheels to center on. You have to carefully center the wheel while setting the lug nuts or the wheel will feel like it is out of balance.

    Torque spec for lug-nut? You mean tighten it as tight as F'N possible?

    Wheel adaptors are dangerous, when you put two different metals together they react causing oxidation, in this case the steel studs over time will corrode the aluminum and will certainly make the lugs loose, use hob centric  wheel spacers and extended high strength bolts ALWAYS, and check your wheel regularly because of thermal expansion. and I've been using anti seize for years never had a problem, it preserve the threads reducing wear.

    Everything sounded good up until you said to add anti-seize in between the wheel and behind the spacer. Who cares if the spacer is hard to get off later. What people don't understand is that the friction created between the mating material is what keeps them in place. Add a lubricant and you've created less friction. And that can cause the spacer to fail.

    Aren't you supposed to use the provided lug nuts to tighten the spacer down? NOT use your old lug nuts? Or does it not matter with hub-centric spacers?

    The locking nut will be used to stop your spacer being stolen? or am i wrong lol

    I have a 1989 BMW E30 the stock offset is +20mm . Bolt pattern is 4×100. I finally found a awesome set of aftermarket wheels with a 4×100 lug pattern, and as you may have guessed, the offset has me hesitant about buying them. The offset of the aftermarket wheels is 40 mm. Can I safely run the +40mm offset on my E30? Thank you

    You are actually fitting the wrong nuts on these rims. The shinny silver nuts MUST be mounted in the spacer NOT ON THE RIMS !!!

    They mention it's a bad idea because their is a reason as to why no auto manufacturers don't use aluminum in the hub assembly. You really can't argue with years of time tested engineering!

    would it be okay to use the nuts that came with the wheel spacer to attach the spacer to the rotor and then use my current security lug nuts for my wheel/tire to place on the spacer? Also how do you know what is the appropriate size spacer such as 1in vs 1.25in vs 2in, etc? lastly, if i want the correct bolt pattern spacer with my current bolt pattern I would just get one such as 120.65 to 120.65 correct? As i have seen some spacers that are 120.65 to 114.

    Dont forget to grease the back of the spacer, they melt stuck to the hub QUICK!

    In your opinion, would you think a 325/60R20 would clear completely or rub slightly more than the 37×12.50R20LT due to the .3inch width difference??

    I have the exact same truck, color and everything.  I’m considering changing my factory tires to 37 inch tires as well, but keeping my factory rims.  Do you think it’s the height, width or combination of the two with the 37 inch tires that cause the rubbing?  How much is your turning radius compromised with the bigger tires?  It sounds likethe rubbing only occurs with sharp turns which play a factor for me because I back my boat up into my warehouse which requires a lot of tight turns.  Any insight you could provide on the turning radius issue would be great. Thanks.

    37×11.5 worked. Slight rub in reverse but that's it. Pretty amazing, people spend thousands to fit tires of that height. But just a 2.5" level is all we needed. Lol

    Since seeing the 37s on your truck, I've been trying to figure out a wheel set to fit the 37s. But then a friend told me that nitto makes a 37×11.5. Do you think a 1" narrower tire would turn without rubbing?

    when you made this video, did you have a two and a half inch leveling kit in the front door is this stock ride height? I have an 2017 F-350 and I'm about to put 37 inch tires on it and I was not sure if I need to have the two and a half inch lift leveling kit installed?
